I wanna learn a new language. I was thinking about either Hindi, Sanskrit or Tamil. Which one should I learn? You are free to suggest any other Indian language. The reason is that I am already confident with my Cantonese (maybe bad with pronunciation) to the point where I can read with a dictionary and learn with comprehensive input and I want to widen my horizons.

sanskrit is very ancient and sounds interesting

 672108

It's similar with other ancient Indo-European languages because it's an ancient Indo-European language. Lithuanian is a very conservative language so it's also similar to those

 672172

>>672167
why not js latin

 672173

inb4 its niche you wanted to learn fuckin. sanskrit

 672174

>>672172
Too good for him

 672175

If I wanted to learn an Indian language, I'd learn Hindi because it's the most popular and also Urdu has the same grammar and core vocabulary.
Btw I often see Indians writing Hindi not in devanagari, but in Latin with so much English words inbetween. Like thirdworlders didn't reallt care about their language. Here only twitter teens insert English words and phrases to Polish sentences.

 672176

>>672172
I already read latin

 672178

If I had to another Indian languages these would be:
2. Tamil - bc dravidian, not Indogeuropean
3. Punjabi - because I hear it's popular everywhere
4. Telugu - because it's also an influential Dravidian lamguage, also I talked with one speaker in the dormitory
Some like Gujarati, Bengali and Marathi are also important, but I don't feel the appeal of them. Also what if I learned the Gypsy language? 🤔

 672179

>>672172
Jokes aside, I see much more benefit in learning Sanskrit than Latin. I don't care about reading the bible in Latin or some larp philosopher but I do care about learning Buddhist and Hindu stuff in Sanskrit

 672180

>>672178
>Also what if I learned the Gypsy language? 🤔
They don't really have a standardized language so it'd be very hard to learn unless you get a native speaker to teach you. For some reason gypsies never standardized their language

 672181

whats the point of learning all of these languages, maltese and english is already tiring for me

 672183

>>672181
Its aryan

 672186

>>672176
Reading the alphabet is different from understanding it

 672187

>>672180
Maybe. They also stopped sounding Indian and they sound like sloppified versions of european languages they're surrounded with. I'm talking mostly about accent and phonology, not grammar.
In my part of the city I can hear Gypsies pretty often and they sometimes say Polosh words with accurate pronounciation. Something odd for someone with a different native language because most of non-Polish speakers here are foreigneers.

 672188

>>672186
I was joking. Also saying you "read Latin" is a way to say you can understand written Latin like the Bible it's a common expression
